Gates Foundation Project

"Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it." (Lou Holtz)

What do you think the above quote means? How does it relate to you, the project you are currently working on for me, and doing well in school?

How is your project going? If you have any concerns, you can comment on them here or send me an email. Keep working hard and think about what Coach Holtz says up above.

The British Empire

They used to say that "the sun never sets on the British Empire." Click on the flag above to see a map that shows what that phrase means. In short Great Britain, at one point, had colonies all over the world, from the Americas to Africa to the Far East. It's hard to believe that as the promotion of democracy was starting to build in England during the 19th and 20th Centuries Great Britain was taking democracy away from other people through colonization. The question you need to answer is why did Great Britain/England need so many colonies? Did they want colonies for the prestige? Was there something that they needed from the colonies?

Why Should Students Be Blogging?

Blogs have been used for a long time, but only recently have we seen them start to be used more and more in the classrooms. The video below shows how elementary students in New Zealand are blogging. It may be a little basic for your tastes, but it gives some ideas of how blogs are being used. How have you seen teachers use blogs in the classroom? Do you have a blog that you write consistently on? Please list 6-7 ways that you feel blogs could be used in the classrooms or by students in general. What could be the benefits to using them consistently? Watch the video to get some ideas and think of some of your own experiences to come up with some good comments.
